Why does Retinol need to be in your skin care routine?

“If it doesn’t make you feel fabulous: don’t do it, don’t buy it, and don’t keep it.”

Feeling fabulous in your own skin, now it doesn’t get much better than that. There are mornings where I wake up, look in the mirror, and the skin on my face just absolutely blows me away. Ever see that GORGEOUS gal whose beauty just makes your heart skip a beat? Imagine that gal being you, in the mirror, every morning. HELLO QUEEN!

So, what product is going to give your skin the TLC it really needs? Retinol.

Why does Retinol need to be in your skin care routine?

1. Normalizes and regulates skin cell production to fight wrinkles.

2. Prevents collagen breakdown.

3. Speeds up skin cell turnover rate that slows down as we age.

Best way to use Retinol.

1. Start SLOW
Use 1x/week (i.e. Mondays) and gradually increase your use after 1-2 months. Eventually, you can use it every-other night!

2. Princess and the PEA
That’s right, princess. You only use a PEA size. At the thought of fighting wrinkles, it is easy to think “the more, the better!” When actually, less is more! Retinol is very strong and can easily irritate your skin making it turn red!

3. Use at NIGHT
Minor skin irritation can occur when beginning to use retinol. Also, your skin is more sensitive to sunlight when using this product! For these reasons, it is best to use it at night and let the product do its job while you get your beauty rest. Sleep easy, breezy.

4. SPF is a MUST
As mentioned above, your skin becomes more sensitive to sunlight when using Retinol. My favorite sunscreen is the Elta MD Broad Spectrum SPF. This SPF is SUPER lightweight, safe for children to use, can be tinted, and does not leave a greasy feel or funk smell after use! Seriously the best stuff!

5. AVOID other powerful products
Because retinol is so intense, it does not mix well with other powerful products such as vitamin c, salicylic acid, or benzoylperoxide. If you are like me and use Vitamin C serum and the latter to fight acne, it’s best to change up your skin care routine until your skin is used to retinol. I have found that using my acne fighting products and Vitamin C serum in the morning and my retinol at night is what is best for my skin!

I have only been using Retinol for the past 4 weeks (every Monday night). I will be updating you guys with before and after pictures after using it for 8-12 weeks!

I hope you guys found these tips helpful! Please comment below with any questions you might have!

*DISCLAIMER: Retinoids have shown to cause birth defects. Do not use retinol when pregnant or breastfeeding! Check your other skin care products for “whispers” of retinol before adding retinol to your skincare routine!

Much Love,

Haylee
